3 days of a hike to Tarsar Lake covering spectacular landscapes

Image
Tarsar lake is one of the pristine lakes that you will find in the Himalayas. Spending a day at Tarsar lake and exploring its surrounding is worth the stay. The conditions in the Himalayas change every hour and you cannot predict what the weather would be like in the next hour. In just one day we could see snowfall, rain, bright sunlight, a clear sky, the mountains around without any snow, green meadows, and crystal clear water in the lake. A gradual ascent from Shekwas camp After a gradual climb all the way from Shekwas to Tarsar on day four, it was more of a complete rest on day five at Tarsar. We were free to explore this area around Tarsar Lake and were not allowed to go any further even though our plan was to go to Marsar and Sundarsar lake which was another half a day's trek. On the evening of day four, we spent most of our time next to the lake. Our camp was hardly 50 meters from the lake and at night, it was freezing, and not just that, the cold b...

Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8G ED | Must have top class legendary lenses of all time

Image
I have been using Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8G lens for a few years now and had this camera in my bag during all my local and Himalayan treks for landscape photography. This lens belongs to the ultra-wide-angle lens category and also comes under the so-called legendary lenses of Nikon. This is one of the best ultra-wide-angle FX lenses you will find in the market (as of this writing) even after so many years of its release when compared to any other brand. This lens can also be used with the DX body. Here is my review of the Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8G ED lens. Image captured using Nikon D600 + Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8G lens Is Nikon 14-24mm a fisheye lens? The Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8G ED lens is not a fisheye lens (even though it appears a bit like that) and is intended to be used with full-frame cameras. The images captured using this lens has very less distortion, for example, the straight lines of buildings and trees appear straight and are not curved/ distorted. This lens is really s...

Best Tripod for Landscape Photography

Image
Planning to buy your first DSLR? or if you have already purchased one then I'm sure most of you might have got a tripod for free along with the camera. This is common practice being followed everywhere by the sales team of the shop, where shop owners sell a cheap quality tripod just to attract customers. But is this a good tripod for landscape photography? These cheap quality tripods may be good for a point-and-shoot camera but not for a DSLR. Do you need a tripod for landscape photography? A tripod for landscape photography can assist keep your photos stable and make them easier to piece together once you're back in front of the computer if you want to take some landscape panoramas. To capture the ideal panoramic photo, start from the left or right side of the image, whatever is most comfortable for you, and allow for some overlap between each frame. In addition, landscape photography typically involves lengthy exposures, which need the use of a tripod. Long expo...

11 Essential Candid Wedding photography gear for indulgent assignment completion

Image
People frequently ask me what equipment I use for candid wedding photography. You are free to use any camera equipment you choose, but I enjoy using the equipment I've listed and encourage others to do the same. The majority of the equipment I own is from Nikon, however the same is true of other manufacturers as well. One thing to keep in mind is that the equipment is significant but not crucial. The photographer and his originality will still be there. Otherwise, you'll just be another expensive-gear-wielding monkey who has no idea how to take the greatest possible pictures. Candid Wedding Photography gear Let me start with the gear that I use: Body: Full frame DSLR camera body. Backup camera. Ex: I have been using D610 AND D750 cameras. You may get the backup camera for rent, as these cameras are super expensive. Lens: A must-have lens - Nikon AF-S 24-70mm F/2.8G ED Must have a lens. Useful for candid shots - Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR II Prime lens - Nikon AF N...

Beautiful night sky colors

Captured this image late in the evening from Hosabettu Beach located in the west coast of Karnataka, India. It was a perfect evening during just before Christmas, with clear sky. I captured few time lapse videos of the sunset and have been experimenting with low light photography.  In the background of this image on top is the dark sky just after sunset with starts and planets that are visible. What I love here is the different colors from orange to blue and then the gradual darkness as you see high above. If you look into the source of light then you will find two of them - one is the natural sunset and the other is from the port nearby which is to the left. In the middle is the Arabian sea to the right and seashore to the left. Those bright light in the sea are from small fishing boats and the ship that are waiting in queue to enter the New Mangalore Port. To the left is the famous Panambur Beach, search lights from coast guard  and also the street light . You can ...
